Administrative Appointment Notices
During this time of change, growth and opportunity for the Faculty of Medicine, and further to Dean Levin’s presentation at the Faculty Town Hall meeting, it is with great pleasure that I announce the following key administrative appointments, replacing staff members who have retired or transferred to another position. Mandates have been updated to reflect changes within the University.
Christine Dolden – Director of Administration
As Director of Administration, Christine Dolden will work closely with the executive director to lead the implementation of administrative actions that support the philosophy, mission, strategy and annual goals of the Faculty of Medicine. As part of her mandate, Christine will support and collaborate with senior administrators, including departmental chairs and directors. In line with the University’s goal to implement best practices, she will also work closely with departmental managers, which will be pivotal in cultivating a productive relationship between the Deanery, departments and the University. In the short term, Christine will continue to work with James Marchant to develop strategies that support and integrate the various units and to ensure the “road to administrative excellence” initiative remains on target and continues to be tailored to the Faculty. In addition to working with departmental managers, Christine will have as direct reports the managers of Educational Services, Academic Affairs and the Institutional Review Board and Research.
Christine brings to this position a wealth of experience gained through her role as manager for the Department of Medicine, where she was exposed to the complexities of the academic lifecycle within a clinical environment. She greatly enhanced the recruitment, tenure and promotion processes and is considered the in-house expert. This experience, together with her demonstrated leadership representing the Faculty on a number of University committees, has prepared her well for this senior administrative role.
A valuable staff member of the University since 1985, Christine has held positions in various departments, including Central Accounting and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of several associations and groups, including the Association of Canadian Clinical Academic Department Administrators. Christine was the recipient of the Anne McCormick Award for Excellence in 2004.
Melissa Knock – Manager, Educational Services
In her new role, Melissa Knock will be responsible for the management of educational services, including for the Undergraduate, Post-Graduate and Continuing Medical Education units. She will oversee activities within these units for human resources and organizational effectiveness, finance, and in building management related to allocation of resources and space.
Melissa brings to this position her expertise and talents to perform a leadership role in the development and implementation of related projects. She will work with the director of administration to develop procedures and work strategies, assign resources, and maximize services to students and our departments.
A member of the Faculty of Medicine since 2007, Melissa has over 20 years of experience at the University, including positions in administration and student affairs with the Faculty of Law. She joined Human Resources in 2004, first supporting Development and Alumni Relations and then the Faculty of Medicine. Melissa holds a bachelor of music degree and a graduate diploma in management, both from McGill. In addition to roles within McGill and the Faculty of Medicine, Melissa serves on the board of directors for the McGill Society of Montreal.
Melina Tondino – Manager/Senior Advisor, Human Resources
In this role, Melina Tondino will be responsible for the management of human resources activities for professional, administrative and technical support staff of the Faculty of Medicine. She will oversee activities in labour relations, recruitment and selection, organizational development, training and compensation. For the short term, Melina will ensure the strategic human resources management for the Faculty and the development of initiatives, including performance management and orientation of new staff, the implementation of a new compensation framework and succession planning.
Melina has ten years experience in human resources, in both the private and public sectors. She has been with the Faculty of Medicine since 2002, most recently in the capacity of human resources advisor. Melina has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a certificate in human resource management, both from McGill, and is currently undertaking a master’s in business administration.
She is a member of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines et en relations industrielles agréés du Québec, and was the 2007 recipient of the Hewitt Prize for Excellence in Human Resources.
I am confident that these new administrative appointments will help lead the Faculty of Medicine to new heights in administrative and operational excellence. Please join me in congratulating Christine, Melissa and Melina, and in wishing them great success in their new roles.
April Caluori
